Premier League TV Rights: "Those two packages will not bridge the gap" (D. Jones, Deloitte)

"I don't think that those two packages by themselves are going to bridge the gap between what the domestic rights were sold for last time (2016-2019) and what they're going for this time (2019-2022)," said Dan Jones, head of the sport business branch of the audit and consultancy firm Deloitte, to the BBC on 14/02/2018.

The Premier League awarded five of the seven lots to the British groups Sky and BT, for a total of £4.6464bn (€5.016bn), or £1.488bn (€1.672bn) per season, on 13/02/2018, following the tender for the domestic TV rights to 200 live matches per season for the 2019-2022 period launched on 08/12/2017.

Pending the allocation of Lots F and G (see lots below), the cost for the live broadcasting rights of the Premier League matches was £672m lower (€755m on 14/02/2018) for the 2019-2022 period than the 2016-2019 period, or £224m (€252m) lower per season.
