USA: United Airlines aquires naming rights for Los Angeles Coliseum for 16 years from 2019

The US airline, United Airlines has acquired the naming rights for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from the University of Southern California (USC) for 16 years on 29/01/2018. The stadium will be renamed the "United Airlines Memorial Coliseum" from August 2019. The contract is estimated at $69m (€55.6m) or $4.3m per year (€3.5m) according to American media.

"USC operates the Coliseum under a 98-year-lease with the city, county and state. That lease included provisions to secure naming rights that would help underwrite the restoration. The agreement will support a $270m project to restore and preserve the Coliseum and upgrade its facilities for fans, athletes and the community, generating thousands of jobs. The renovation will honor the stadium’s rich architectural history and preserve its status as a registered historic landmark, while adding modern amenities that will improve the visitor experience," explained USC while the renovation will result in a reduction in capacity from 93,607 to 77,500.
