Asics: stable turnover in 2017 (¥400bn) but operating and net profit lower than in 2016

Asics generated a turnover of ¥400.1bn (€2.8bn on 31/12/2017) during the 2017 fiscal year (from 01/01 to 31/12/2017), up 0.3% compared to 2016 (¥399.1bn/€3.2bn on 31/12/2016), announced the Japanese equipment manufacturer on 14/02/2018.

The "shoes" product line contributed ¥333.3bn (€2.3bn), up 1.1% compared to 2016 (¥329.6bn/€2.6bn), or 83.3% of Asics' total sales. "Accessories" (¥18.8bn/€131.6m) rose by 3.3%, while "clothing" (¥47.9bn/€335.3m) fell by 6.3% over 12 months.

"Running" products  generated ¥230bn (€1.6 bn) -- up 0.7% compared to 2016 -- or 57.5% of total Asics sales. The product categories with the highest growth over 12 months were "Training" (¥23.7bn/€165.9m,+4.4%) and "Lifestyle" (53.2bn/€372.4m, +3.5%), while "Core Performance Sport" fell by 4.0% (to ¥57.5bn/€402.5m).

Asics generated 29.8% of its 2017 sales in Japan (¥119.4bn/€835.8m), and 26.5% in the Americas and in the EMEA zone. However, the brand experienced its strongest growth in the "Oceania/South and Southeast Asia" segment (+15.0%) and in East Asian countries (+13.1%) during 2017.
