Qatar 2022: International Ski Federation opposed to FIFA World Cup in winter

"The FIS (International Ski Federation) will submit a proposal to the other six International Winter Sports Federations to sign a resolution against organising the World Cup during the winter sports season in 2022," said an FIS statement after the council's autumn meeting, on the 03/11/2013, at the headquarters of the FIS in Oberhofen (Switzerland).

It will submit its resolution to the International Federations of biathlon (IBU), skating (UIS), curling (WCF), luge (FIL), bobsleigh and skeleton (FIBT) and ice hockey (IIHF).

The FIS is concerned that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, if it is moved to the winter, will interfere with media coverage and sponsorship of winter sports competitions, and in particular the Olympic Games, scheduled in February 2022.
