IFAB: decision to be made on Video Assistant Referees at the Annual General Meeting on 03/03/2018

The IFAB is to make a decision on Video Assistant Referees at the 132^nd Annual General Meeting, to be held at FIFA headquarters in Zurich (SUI) on Saturday 03/03/2018.

The agenda (available to download) provides that the body discusses changes to the laws of the game related to the Video Assistant Referee, the post-experimental protocol, manual implementation, and assistance to the application of the Video Assistant Referee programme.

"On the 03/03/2018, we will decide whether the video assistant refereeing will be part of the laws of the game and will become an official help for referees or not. In 2018 we cannot anymore afford that everyone in the stadium and everyone in front of a TV screen can see within a few minutes on his phone whether the referee has made a big mistake or not, and the only one who cannot see it is the referee. So if we can help the referee then we should do it," said Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, a strong supporter of Video Assistant Referees on 08/02/2018.

If this technology is allowed, it will be used at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
