TV rights for European cups: "Small clubs should not complain" (Franz Beckenbauer)

"Small clubs should not complain. The current position of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund is the result of hard work," said Franz Beckenbauer on the 05/11/2013.

The honorary president of Bayern Munich was chiefly reacting to a proposal made in August 2013 by the executive chairman of Eintracht Frankfurt (Bundesliga), Heribert Bruchhagen, to give a portion of the money collected by German clubs engaged in European cups to other Bundesliga clubs.

"Taking money from Bayern and Borussia to balance our league does not make sense. That would mean that these clubs are punished for their success," said Franz Beckenbauer to Bild newspaper, on the 05/11/2013.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the board of Bayern Munich, called the proposal by Heribert Bruchhagen an "absurd" idea.

"I think UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) must think about how to redistribute media rights to the Champions League and Europa League, because every country wants to have a uniform national championship and not a competition dominated by only two teams," said Christian Seifert, general manager of the…
