Real Madrid: Microsoft confirms talks over naming of Santiago Bernabeu stadium

The American software company Microsoft has confirmed being in talks with Real Madrid (La Liga) over the naming of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium (85,000 seats) on the 06/11/2013. "They have proposed to us, and to other companies, renaming the stadium, but we are only talking about this possibility," said Maria Garana, CEO of Microsoft Iberia, on the Spanish TV channel Antena 3.

"We have an excellent relationship with Real Madrid. They use our technology and we are very proud of that. In fact, we recently signed an agreement with their foundation in Spain, South America and Asia", she added.

"We are working to find a sponsor for the stadium. We are at work, we want to add a partner to the existing name," said Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, on the 15/10/2013.

The German car manufacturer Audi and the airline company Emirates could also be in the running for the naming rights of the stadium, according to the Spanish press.

  • The selling of the naming rights would help fund the renovation of the Bernabeu stadium. Upgrades will cost between €300 and €400m.
