Germany: ZDF "very interested" by TV rights to the UEFA Champions League 2015-2018

"ZDF is very interested in the prospect of covering the Champions League in the future. We will make an offer," said Dieter Gruschwitz, sports director of the German public broadcaster on the 04/11/2013.

German broadcasters have until the 27/11/2013 to respond to the tender of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) for broadcasting rights in Germany, for European club competitions for the period 2015 -2018. Offers are sent to Team Marketing, the agency that sells media and commercial rights for UEFA club competitions.

ZDF holds the rights to broadcast the Champions League, on German free-TV, for the period 2012-2015. The public broadcaster pays an estimated €48 to €54 million per season to exclusively broadcast one weekly Champions League match on Wednesday's, four second round games, two quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the final.

"The first year of broadcasting the Champions League (2012-13) was a great success, not only in terms of audiences for live matches, but also for the promotion of other programs of the channel," added Dieter Gruschwitz.
