Serie A TIM: 2018-2021 TV rights allocated to Mediapro as an intermediary but not as a broadcaster

The Italian Competition and Market Guarantee Authority (AGCM, also known as "Antitrust" in Italy) has authorised the allocation of domestic audiovisual rights of the Serie A for the 2018-2021 cycle to the Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro, as an independent intermediary, on 14/03/2018. Mediapro cannot be a broadcaster or create a Lega Serie A channel as proposed when the rights were granted on 05/02/2018 (read below).

The Lega Serie A had allocated the domestic audiovisual rights of the Serie A for the 2018-2021 cycle to Mediapro as an independent intermediary, for €1,050,001,000 a year on 05/02/2018. "This price being higher than the minimum price required by the tender (€1,000 euros above the €1.05bn reserve price), the Lega Serie A will now turn to the Competition and Market Guarantee Authority, with the aim of officially granting the rights in question," said the Italian League.

Mediapro had proposed to create a channel for the league, which would then have sold its programmes to different operators.
