Olympique Lyonnais: UEFA opens disciplinary investigation

"Olympique Lyonnais is aware of the opening of a disciplinary procedure against the club regarding the racist behavior of some spectators. Pending the study of the documents provided by UEFA, the club has already condemned these shameful acts committed by a few isolated individuals," said the Lyon club on 19/03/2018, in reference to the investigation initiated by the European authority following incidents during the Olympique Lyonnais - PFC CSKA Moscow (2-3) Round of 16 return leg of the 2017-18 Europa League, on 15/03/2018, at the Groupama Stadium (57,084 capacity).

While certain incidents between Olympique Lyonnais supporters and police officers occurred outside on the street and therefore outside the scope of the club's responsibility, others took place inside the Groupama Stadium, which motivated UEFA's disciplinary committee to open an investigation into the "launching of objects, triggering of fireworks, stadium disturbances, stair blocking and racist behavior," according to the daily newspaper L'Équipe on 20/03/2018.
