Valencia: new 61,500 seat stadium project for unfinished Nou Mestalla; halted since 2009

The British architect firm of Mark Fenwick, Fenwick Iribarren Architects, have completed a project for the construction of the Nou Mestalla stadium in Valencia, on the 13/11/2013. The work on the stadium started in 2007, but ground to a halt in February 2009 due to a lack of money.

The new project, which is in collaboration with the club (who own the stadium), would cost €232 million, which is €60 million less than the €292 million originally planned for the stadium. €90 million in finance would be needed to complete the stadium. "The economic situation is not like it was a few years ago in Spain, but this is an opportunity to revive this stadium and keep the spirit of the original project. To do this, costs have been optimised and adjusted, presenting a viable project for the time in which we live," said Mark Fenwick.
