Renaming Hull City: "business decisions belong to me" (Assem Allam)

"A shorter club name will hopefully give us a stronger, quicker marketing impact all over the world," said Assem Allam, president of Hull City AFC (Premier League) on the 12/11/2013. He wants to rename Hull City AFC, the "Hull Tigers" from 2014-15.

"Having been deprived of opportunities to acquire the stadium freehold, which would have enabled us to create the infrastructure in the surrounding area, we will now need to focus on generating commercial income from elsewhere," said the Egyptian president.

The supporters group, "City Till We Die", have been protesting against the name change since September 2013. "We remain puzzled that Dr Allam cannot distinguish between the name of his holding company and the football name of the club he owns," they said on the 11/11/2013. "Let us be clear - Dr Allam cannot change the name of the football club without approval of the FA, who in turn require consultation with fans," they added.
