The first online tournament of the McDonald's Virtual LaLiga eSports, an eSports competition launched by the LaLiga and sponsored by the fast food chain McDonald's, drew over 5,000 players from 19 to 23/03/2018, according to LaLiga on 26/03/2018.

The McDonald's Virtual LaLiga eSports competition serves as the official qualifying phase for Spanish participants of the EA Sports FIFA 18 Global Series playoffs (see details below), which will take place in June 2018.

"Over 5,000 gamers, featuring representatives from the eSports teams of the LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 1|2|3 clubs, entered the opening qualifier of a competition which will see one gamer crowned as Spain's top EA Sports FIFA player across the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One categories," said LaLiga.

LaLiga organises the competition with the Spanish professional video game league (Liga de Videojuegos Profesional, LVP), a strategic eSports partner of the Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro, which broadcasts nine out of ten LaLiga Santander matches per week in 2017-18 on beIN LaLiga channels.
