FIFA: David Chung (PNG) resigns as vice-president and as president of the OFC

"FIFA has taken note of the resignation of David Chung (Papua New Guinea) as a member of the FIFA Council and as President of the OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) for personal reasons," announced the international federation, on 06/04/2018.

"In accordance with the FIFA Statutes (art. 33 par. 8), OFC members will now have to decide on the replacement of David Chung on the FIFA Council for the remaining period of office," added FIFA.

According to documents and e-mails to which the New York Times had access, the OFC was on the verge of suspending David Chung for a "gross dereliction of duty or an act of improper conduct" concerning financial irregularities during the construction of the new headquarters of the confederation in Auckland, New Zealand.

FIFA, confirmed that the investigation revealed "potential irregularities in the construction process" of the OFC headquarters, and announced that it has suspended its financial support of the confederation (FIFA pays $10m/€8.1m per year, to each of the six confederations).
