The Amsterdam ArenA (53,502 capacity), home to AFC Ajax (Eredivisie), will be officially renamed the "Johan Cruyff ArenA" (Johan Cruijff ArenA in Dutch) from the beginning of the 2018-19 season, said the Amsterdam club (NED) on 05/04/2018. Johan Cruyff, former player and coach of the club (see below) born on 25/04/1947, died in Barcelona (ESP) on 24/03/2016.

The new stadium logo will be presented "around 25/04/2018, the day that would have been the 71st birthday of the greatest Ajacied (Ajax player) of all time," added the club.

"Johan Cruyff is the greatest footballer in the history of Ajax. He has helped Ajax become a big name both nationally and internationally. Wonderful to have the stadium named after him," said Edwin van der Sar, marketing director of AFC Ajax.
