Spain: Spanish law and the statutes of the clubs concerned set the rights and duties of socios

The Spanish Sports Law of 15/10/1990 and the statutes of the four clubs that have maintained an associative structure (FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF, Athletic Club, and Club Atlético Osasuna) set the rights and duties of their individual members. The basic rights allocated to "socios" are to participate in sports, social, recreational, and cultural activities organised by their club.

Some members (determined by criteria of age, seniority, validity, but also nationality) can also take an active part in the club's governance, and have a say in the actions of the board of directors.

Thus, a certain number of "socios" can be chosen as "delegates", constitute the general assembly of the club, and vote on the decisions and deliberations on the agenda. Some "socios" also have the right to elect the president and the members of the board of directors, and other governing bodies of the club from their "socio" status (volunteer functions).
