Europa League: "The income gap with the Champions League will keep growing" (Lars-Christer Olsson)

"Discussions are currently underway to increase the number of participating clubs in the Europa League. The ratio between revenues distributed to the Champions League clubs and those paid to Europa League clubs will be even more favourable to the Champions League during the 2018-2021 cycle than it was in the previous three seasons," said Lars-Christer Olsson, president of European Leagues, to News Tank Football after the first "Club Advisory Platform" organised by European Leagues, in Amsterdam (NED) on 23/04/2018.

The theme of this day of talks with clubs was the competitive balance of domestic and European competitions. In addition to Lars-Christer Olsson, Jacco Swart, CEO of the Eredivisie; Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga; and Claudius Schäfer, CEO of the SFL, were also present. European Leagues notably presented the clubs with the reform of the format and distribution criteria of the Champions League and the Europa League for the 2018-2021 cycle, as well as a projection of the impact of these changes on the economic and sporting balance of the various European leagues.
