eSports: the DFB disassociates from violent video games in order to focus on "e-Soccer"

"The DFB highlights a clear demarcation in eSports games and intends to focus solely on sports-related video games, and to prevent misleading interpretations of the term eSports, it will be referred to as e-Soccer," announced the German Football Association on 20/04/2018. 

"The German Football Association (DFB) has agreed with its regional and state associations on a uniform approach to the topic of e-sports. The consensus is that violent, war and killer games practiced under the general term 'eSports' do not fit the statutory values that the DFB and its member associations want to convey to children and young people. The involvement of the associations will therefore be limited to football-related games and formats," said the body.

"Together we want to define the responsible use of computer games for all, which takes into account the protection of children and adolescents as well as the prevention of addiction risks.
