London Olympic Stadium: West Ham and Leyton Orient have to reach agreement, say House of Lords

"West Ham United (Premier League) and Leyton Orient (League One, the third tier of English football) must stop bickering and find a solution for the future of the Olympic Stadium," said Lord Harris, chairman of the committee on the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games from the House of Lords on the 18/11/2013.

The stadium, which is to become the home of West Ham United from the 2016-17 season, is the subject of legal wrangling. Leyton Orient, who denounced West Ham's rights to exclusively operate the stadium, saw their appeal rejected in September 2013. The Premier League club holds the anchor lease that allows them to use the stadium for 99 years.

"The Olympic Stadium is a national asset. We want to make sure that asset is used to the full and that the community at large gets the widest possible benefit. We want to make sure all the different parties sit down and talk properly. We think it may be possible to work in a different way. It has to be economically viable," said Lord Harris.
