La Liga: FC Barcelona appoint Albert Montagut as director of communications

Albert Montagut has been appointed director of communications of FC Barcelona, the club announced on the 19/11/2013. The Spanish journalist, who takes over Xavier Martin, in office since December 2011, will aim to improve the image of the club, especially internationally.

Albert Montagut previously worked for the Spanish newspapers El Pais, El Mundo and El Periodico. A journalist since 1976, he recently served as Internet project manager for Bertelsmann, the German media group, from December 2012 to September 2013.

At the same time, Barcelona extended the contract of former goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta. He has been the club's director of sport since the 02/07/2010, and will now continue until 2016. "I’m happy with the confidence shown in me, for the feeling of continuity, but I also know this is a challenge I have to face ever day," said Andoni Zubizarreta.
