"Fair working conditions must be introduced quickly, consistently and on a sustained basis in Qatar," said FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). The meeting, at the headquarters of the international body in Zurich (Switzerland), focused on the situation of workers on the construction sites of the 2022 World Cup, on the 21/11/2013.

Joseph Blatter, FIFA president, Michael Sommer, president of the ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation) and DGB (Confederation of German Trade Unions), Wolfgang Niersbach, the president of the DFB (German Football Association) and Theo Zwanziger, a member the executive committee of FIFA, were all present at the meeting.

"The aim is to be in a position to report on concrete measures for Qatar at the Executive Committee meeting in March 2014. Large companies must be reminded of their duties in this area. The international community must also accept its responsibility," said Theo Zwanziger.

Blatter urged him to continue the dialogue with the ITUC and involve organisations defending human and labor rights.
