China: Nike to continue as equipment supplier to the Ping An Chinese Super League until 2028 (€397m)

The US brand Nike has formalised its extension of the partnership with the CSL for a period of 10 years, on 09/05/2018. Nike has been the official equipment supplier to the Ping An Chinese Super League since the 2009 season and all of its 16 clubs since fiscal year 2012.

Under the current 2011 contract, which runs until the end of the 2019 season, Nike pays the CSL an estimated $30m per season (€25.1m as of 11/05/2018). The new agreement would take effect in June 2019 and extend until the end of the 2023 season, with five additional option years (or until the end of the 2028 fiscal year), according to Chinese media.

The amount of the partnership could reach 3bn yuan over 10 years (€397m), or 300m yuan per season (€39.7m). This would represent a 58.7% increase over the annual amount for the 2011-2018 period.

2.2bn yuan (€291m) would be paid to clubs in the form of equipment (€1.8m per club, per season) and 800m yuan (€106m) in cash (around €600,000 per club, per season).
