World Cup 2014: Puma release "Ghost of 1950" to celebrate Uruguay's qualification

German kit supplier Puma have unveiled a viral video to celebrate the qualification of Uruguay for the 2014 World Cup, following a 0-0 draw against Jordan, on the 20/11/2013 (Uruguay beat Jordan 5-0 away, on the 13/11/2013).

The commercial, directed by the Notable agency, and produced by Metropolis Films, features the "Ghost of 1950" strolling through the streets of Rio de Janeiro.

The video is a reference to Uruguay's victory over Brazil during the 1950 World Cup. Uruguay beat Brazil 2-1 in the final game of the competition, played at the Maracana stadium in Brazil, on the 16/07/1950. As a result of this, the match became know as the "Maracanaço" (the Maracana coup). The Puma video depicts a "ghost", with the number 50 on its back, roaming the streets and beaches of Rio, eventually ending up in the Maracana stadium.

The video has been viewed over 750,000 times since the 20/11/2013.
