Brazil 2014: crane collapse at Sao Paulo Arena, which hosts opening match

A metal crane collapsed at the construction site of the Sao Paulo Arena (65,800 seats) which will host the opening match of the XX World Cup, on the 12/06/2014. The collapse caused the death of two workers, on the 27/11/2013.

"FIFA and the LOC (Local Organising Committee) have learned of the death of workers at the Corinthians Arena site in Sao Paulo with great sadness. We wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the workers who tragically died today. The safety of workers is the top priority for FIFA, the LOC and the federal government. The Department of Labour and the local authorities will fully investigate the reasons behind such a tragic accident," said FIFA in a statement.

The stadium in Sao Paulo is one of six (out of twelve that will host the World Cup) which is still under construction and to be delivered before the 31/12/2013.
