ECA: Executive Board calls for an "open and transparent manner" on new competitions

"In relation to the future of FIFA Competitions, such as the Global Nations League and Club World Cup, the Board expects discussions to be undertaken in an open and transparent manner using formal channels of engagement between ECA and FIFA," stated the ECA Executive Committee after its meeting in Warsaw (POL) on 05 and 06/06/2018.

"Board members acknowledged that a number of wide-ranging reforms impacting the club game are currently being considered. These will have to be elaborated in an open, transparent and detailed manner to ensure optimum outcomes for the long-term benefit of the game," added ECA.

FIFA is thought to be considering the project from a group of investors willing to inject $25bn (€20.4bn) over the 2021-2033 period for the organisation of a new format of the Club World Cup and a Nations League at a global scale.
• The new Club World Cup would be held every four years, in the autumn, starting in 2021, and bring together 24 clubs, 12 of them from Europe.
• The Global Nations League would bring together eight national teams in a final tournament every two years.
