Deloitte: European football represented a market of €25.5bn in 2016-17 (+4%)

"Strong growth in broadcasting rights values across European football’s biggest domestic and continental competitions drove total European football market revenue to €25.5bn in 2016/17, a 4% increase on 2015-16 (€24.6bn)," said the UK audit and consultancy firm Deloitte, in the 2018 edition of their "Annual Review of Football Finance", published on 07/06/2018.

The 98 clubs in the European Top 5 (Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga Santander, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1 Conforama) totaled nearly €14.7bn in turnover in 2016-17, an increase of €1.3bn (+9%) compared to 2015-16. The club's comprised 58% of European football revenue, ahead of the first division leagues of the Top 5 (19%, €4.9bn).

"The financial results for the 2016/17 season fully affirmed the English Premier League’s position as the market leader, with record revenue generated of £4.5bn (nearly €5.297bn), as every one of the 20 clubs set their own personal annual revenue record," added the Deloitte Annual Review.
