26 Austrian players questioned by police as part of investigation into match-fixing

26 Austrian players, current and former, were questioned by police about suspicions of match-fixing in the Austrian championships on the 28/11/2013. 17 matches are concerned, say the authorities.

Among the players questioned, three are from the club SV Grödig (Austrian Bundesliga, 1st division). Dominique Taboga, a former player sacked by the club on the 14/11/2013, filed a complaint on the 12/11/2013, saying he was blackmailed in to rigging a match. He also admitted attempting to convince his teammates to manipulate the outcome of a match in 2012-13.

The Austrian Bundesliga and the ÖFB (Austrian Football Federation) said they are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigations.

  • Six people were arrested in England by the NCA (National Crime Agency) as part of an investigation into an Asian syndicate of illegal betting in the English lower divisions, said the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, on the 27/11/2013.
