Brazil 2014: changes on Sao Paulo site done without the agreement of the authorities

Changes were made during the construction of the Arena de Sao Paulo, where the opening match of the 20th World Cup on the 12/06/2014, is due to take place, without the permission of the municipality, said the state prosecution of Sao Paulo, on the 30/11/2013.

An accident, which caused the collapse of a crane that lifted off the last portion of the roof, which weighed 420 tonnes, caused the death of two workers, on the 27/11/2013, and the destruction of part of a stand and a giant screen.

The stadium project that is nearing completion is "different from that which was approved by the city council of Sao Paulo in May 2011," according to the local daily, Folha de Sao Paulo.

  • The Odebrecht Group, who are carrying out the work, claim to be in possession of all the necessary permits regarding the changes agreed during construction.
