Deportivo Alavés: local authorities invest €22m for the renovation of the Mendizorroza

The Basque Government (€6.93m), the Provincial Council of Alava (€6.93m) and Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council (€8.18m) have agreed to invest a maximum of €22m, or 40% of the total cost of the works for the extension and modernisation of the Mendizorroza (19,840 capacity in 2017-18), the home of Deportivo Alavés (LaLiga Santander), announced the club on 14/06/2018.

Deportivo Alavés is the exclusive operator of the Mendizorroza, which belongs to the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, under a contract until 2023. In December 2016 the club presented a project to increase the capacity of the stadium which was built in 1924, and was last renovated in 2000, from a capacity of 19,840 to 32,000. The target capacity would be around 28,000, for a total cost of €55m, according to several Spanish media. The work is expected to be completed by 2021.
