Spain: Telefonica acquires the TV rights for the European cups (2018-2021) from Mediapro

Telefonica, a Spanish telecommunications group, has acquired, via sublicense with the Chinese-Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro, the broadcasting rights, in Spain, to the Champions League and Europa League for the 2018-2021 cycle, on 28/06/2018.

Mediapro acquired these rights for an estimated €1.1bn (average of €366m per year) according to Spanish media, on 19/07/2017. Telefonica acquires these rights for €360m per year, according to the Spanish group.

The transaction comes three days after Telefonica acquired the rights to broadcast nine of the 10 games per matchday of LaLiga Santander (see below), in Spain, for the 2019-2022 cycle.
