Lega Serie A: "extreme concern" about decree-law which prohibits advertising to betting companies

"The Lega Serie A follows with extreme concern the process of adopting the 'Dignity Decree-Law' and the impact on Italian football of rules that prohibit advertising to betting companies," stated the Italian Professional Football League on 03/07/2018.

This decree-law, called "urgent measures for the dignity of workers and enterprises", adopted in the Council of Ministers on 02/07/2018, contains, in Title III, provisions designed to combat gambling addiction: any form of direct or indirect advertising for games or money-saving bets is prohibited, with the exception of the national lottery.

"By highlighting the obvious disparity with other countries in Europe and the rest of the world, where such bans do not exist, and highlighting the negative consequences in terms of turnover and employment in Italy due to the introduction of this measure, the Lega Serie A recalls that 12 clubs of Serie A had, in 2017-18, contracts with betting companies, which is the fourth most active business sector in terms of investments for kit sponsorship of the six biggest European championships (Premier…
