With more than 1.24 million fans on social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), the Russian national team has 41% more than Croatia, which totals nearly 880,000 fans, as the two countries prepare to face each other in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, at the Fisht Stadium (48,000 capacity) in Sochi (RUS), on Saturday 07/07/2018 (kick-off at 21:00 local time, 20:00 CET).

In terms of the value of equipment supplier contracts (fixed amount and equipment revenue, excluding bonuses), the Russian Federation (Football Union of Russia) receives €12.5m per year from adidas until 2022, while the Croatian Football Federation (Hrvatski nogometni sais, HNS) receives €1.5m per year from Nike until 2026.

Neither of the two nations have won the World Cup. Croatia finished third in the 1998 World Cup in France. The Soviet Union (which included Russia from 1922 to 1991) reached the semi-finals of the 1966 edition in England, the nation's best result in the competition.
