LaLiga: a record 14.3 million spectators attended stadiums in first and second divisions in 2017-18

"This is an attendance record: more than 14 million spectators watched matches at LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 1|2|3 stadiums during the 2017-18 season, nearly 223,000 more than in 2016-17 (+1.58%)," announced the Spanish League on 06/07/2018.

"The average LaLiga Santander attendance decreased by 3.3% compared to the previous season, with a total of 10,173,142 spectators attending the stadiums in 2017-18, or about 318,000 spectators less than in 2016-17: the Barcelona FC - UD Las Palmas game (LaLiga Santander Matchday 7), played behind closed doors (at the request of the Catalan club who originally wanted to postpone the match, to protest the clashes between police and supporters of the referendum on the self-determination of Catalonia organised on 01/10/2017), contributed significantly to this decrease in attendance," added LaLiga, who also emphasised that "the decline in attendance in some stadiums with a large capacity like Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu (-183,018 spectators compared to 2016-17) or Barcelona's Camp Nou (-261,072 spectators) affected the figures for the season.…
