Brazil 2014: Arena de Sao Paulo not be ready until mid-April, but "no plan B" (Blatter)

The Arena de Sao Paulo, where the opening match of the 20th World Cup is to take place, on the 12/06/2014, will not be ready until mid-April 2014 and "for the time being there's no plan B ", said Joseph Blatter, president of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), following the meeting of the Executive Committee of the international Federation on the 05/12/2013.

An accident caused by the collapse of a crane that lifted off the last portion of the roof, which weighed 420 tonnes, caused the death of two workers, on the 27/11/2013, and caused damage to a part of the stadium which is under construction.

The rubble and debris caused by the accident are being cleared. Odebrecht, the construction company who built the stadium, must verify that the structure of the stadium itself was not damaged.

Changes were made during the construction without the permission of the municipality, said Sao Paulo's state prosecution, on the 30/11/2013.

The Brazilian government estimated on the 04/12/2013 that the Arena de Sao Paulo would be completed in February 2014, while the original…
