eSports: ESPN to broadcast the 2018 Overwatch League Grand Finals at prime time in the USA

American conglomerate The Walt Disney Company has acquired for its American channels ESPN (sports channels), Disney XD (thematic channel for children and adolescents), and ABC (general-interest channel), the exclusive television broadcasting rights, in the United States, to the Overwatch League, for "several years", from Blizzard Entertainment, a North American publisher and game developer, on 11/07/2018.

The Overwatch League is a competition organised in a similar way to the North American sports leagues (NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, MLS), with 12 franchises (see below) competing in the regular season and then in the play-offs. The inaugural season of the competition began on 10/01/2018, and the play-offs on 12/07/2018.

ESPN, which has 86 million subscribers in the United States, will broadcast the first of two days of the 2018 Grand Finals at prime time on its premier channel, on 27/07/2018. This is the first time an eSports competition will have been broadcast at prime time on a sports channel in the United States.
