2014 World Cup: OSMI awarded exclusive free TV media rights in Nigeria

Media and marketing rights agency Optima Sports Management International (OSMI) has been awarded the exclusive free TV media rights for the 2014 World Cup (Brazil, from the 12/06 to the 13/07/2013) and other FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) events in Nigeria, on the 03/12/2013.

The agreement comprises television and mobile rights, and includes other FIFA tournaments including the 2014 U-17 Women’s World Cup and 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup.

“FIFA is pleased to confirm our partnership with OSMI in Nigeria after the successful implementation of the media rights programme in Nigeria for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Nigerian football fans are in for a true treat from the upcoming events that will feature Nigeria’s national teams," said Niclas Ericson, Director of FIFA’s TV Division, on the 03/12/2013.

"We can’t afford to disenfranchise Nigerians as the majority of them still watch free television. It (the World Cup) is indeed available to all broadcasters…we are, however, open for discussion on redistribution of the content," declared OSMI chief executive Rotimi Pedro…
