28 of the 64 matches of the 2018 World Cup in Russia broadcast by the French free and private TV channel TF1, drew an average of 8.7 million viewers per game, according to data from the audience measurement institute Médiamétrie. The average audience share of these 28 matches was 44.8%.

At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the 28 matches broadcast by TF1 drew an average of 9.1 million viewers. The average audience share was 46%.

As in 2014, beIN Sports broadcast all 64 matches of the 2018 World Cup. The pay-TV group had 2.5 million subscribers at the time compared to over 4 million today.

  • The figures communicated do not take into account the out-of-home audience (bars, restaurants, public places).
  • Médiamétrie has tested the measurement of this audience since May 2018 via an out-of-home audience measurement device and estimated it, during France's five first matches in the competition, "to be an average of 15% additional audience," on 11/07/2018.
