"Investing a massive effort to reduce losses from illegal broadcasting" (E. Fernández, LaLiga)

"Protecting our product is fundamental to our business. We cannot allow pirate channels to offer access to LaLiga's programming. Spanish football is investing a massive effort, both in terms of financial and human resources, in its attempts to try to reduce the losses incurred as a result of the illegal broadcasting of fixtures," stated Emilio Fernández, head of digital activities at LaLiga, to News Tank Football on 30/07/2018.

LaLiga, which claims to lose an estimated €400m per year because of piracy, has seen a 48% decrease in the consumption of pirated content in Spain since the 2015-16 season. The Spanish league now has a 20-person team and its own bespoke monitoring tool, Marauder (see below) dedicated to anti-piracy activities.
