2018 World Cup: TV audiences in the European Top 5 countries

The Germany - Sweden match (2-1 in Sochi, Group F) was watched by 27.48 million on average in Germany on the public channel ARD, on sSaturday 23/06/2018 (kick-off at 20:00 CET ). This was the best TV audience for the 2018 World Cup in a European Top 5 country (Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom). Except for Italy, whose national team did not qualify for the competition, the best audiences in each country were achieved by a game of the national team (see infographics below).

Despite the elimination of die Mannschaft at the end of the group stage, Germany posted the best TV audiences and audience shares of the competition. Regarding the average of the 25 best most watched games per country, the figures are as follows (only audiences on free-to-air channels are taken into account):

• Germany: 14.13 million viewers (share: 49.7%)
• France: 9.26 million viewers (share: 46.3%)
• United Kingdom: 9.07 million viewers (share: 49%)
• Italy: 7.17 million viewers (share: 37.2%)
• Spain: 5.98 million viewers (share: 44.6%)
