La Liga: renovate the Nou Camp or build a new stadium? FC Barcelona will decide in January 2014

FC Barcelona (Liga BBVA) will choose between a renovation of the Nou Camp (99,350 seats) and the construction of a new stadium, in the first half of January 2014, announced the club's spokesman Toni Freixa, following a meeting of the Board of Directors, on the 09/12/2013.

"There are two projects between which we have not made our choice. But in all cases, the Barcelona stadium will have a capacity of 105,000 spectators and the stands will be fully covered," said the spokesman of the club. FC Barcelona will then submit their decision to a referendum.

The Nou Camp renovation project includes adding a roof to cover all the stands, as well as increasing the stadium capacity to 105,000 seats. The project would cost between 300 and €400 million.

The possible new stadium would in turn be located on the grounds of the University of Barcelona. The construction is estimated at €600m according to the Catalan media. The 105,000 seat stadium would be supplemented by a 12,000 seat arena for Barcelona's indoor teams, as well as parking for 6,000.
