Notably, the big difference for the 2018-19 edition of the league is the advanced closing of the summer transfer window, which closed one day prior to the beginning of the Premier League season, on Thursday 09/08/2018, at 17:00 local time (18:00 CET).

The Premier League clubs voted in favour of shortened transfer windows on 07/09/2017, with 14 clubs voting for the change, 5 against, and one abstention (believed to have been Burnley), according to British media. The five clubs against the measure are thought to have been Manchester City, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Watford, and Swansea City (the Welsh club were relegated to the Sky Bet Championship for 2018-19).
