United States: Draftkings SportsBook becomes the first legal platform for sports betting

DraftKings, an American sportsbook company focused on fantasy leagues (virtual sports leagues played via internet) has launched DraftKings SportsBook, a sports betting platform, on 06/08/2018. This first legal platform of sports betting in the United States is accessible only in the State of New Jersey (United States) as of the launch on 10/08/2018.

"The service will give users the ability to place multiple types of bets, including live in-game bets, on both major and niche sports taking place locally and internationally," said DraftKings on 07/08/2018. The app and site will allow users to switch from a virtual league to sports betting with one click.

DraftKings filed a sports betting license application on 12/06/2018, after the abolition of the betting ban by the US Supreme Court in 46 of the country's 50 states (see below). After New Jersey, DraftKings SportsBook "is prepared to act in response to the potential legalisation of sports betting in other states across the US," added DraftKings.
