"The AFE strongly protests the agreement between LaLiga and the company Relevent, which provides that one official match is played in the United States (per season)," announced the Association of Spanish Footballers on 16/08/2018.

"It is expected that one official match of LaLiga Santander will be played in the United States, the first to be played outside Europe," LaLiga said at the time of the announcement of the agreement with Relevent, an American company specialized in media, sports and entertainment, with the creation of a joint venture to promote football in the United States and Canada

No details were given by the Spanish Professional League, on 16/08/2018, regarding the date and place of this relocated regular season game, nor about the clubs concerned. Several Spanish media outlets, however, indicate that the first relocated game in the United States should take place in 2018-19, and that it would involve either FC Barcelona or Real Madrid CF.
