Tennis: prize money for the US Open 2018 rises to $53m (+5.1% compared to the 2017 edition)

The prize money for the 2018 edition of the US Open Grand Slam, which runs from 27/08 to 09/09/2018, has risen to $53m (€45m on 17/07/2018), according to the organisers of the tournament, on 17/07/2018. The amount is up 5.1% compared to the 2017 edition ($50.4m, or €43.9m on 18/07/2017).

"Each singles champion will receive $3.8m (€3.2m), the largest payout in US Open history and a $100,000 increase from last year. Prize money at the US Open has increased by 57% since 2013. The US Open was the first tournament to offer equal prize money to men and women competitors in 1973," said the USTA (United States Tennis Association). 

The best growth in prize money is concentrated on qualifications and the first two rounds of the men's and women's singles (+8.1% on average for the first three rounds). "The US Open Qualifying Tournament will offer more than $3m (€2.5m) in prize money for the first time," added the US Open.
