"Today we're making Facebook Watch available everywhere - giving people around the world a new way to discover great videos and interact with friends, creators and other fans," announced the social network on 29/08/2018. Facebook Watch was launched in the United States at the end of August 2017.

Facebook launched Watch "to give people a place on Facebook to find shows and video creators they love and to start conversations with friends, other fans, and even creators themselves. Every month, more than 50 million people in the US come to watch videos for at least a minute in Watch - and total time spent watching videos in Watch has increased by 14X since the start of 2018," said the social network.

The announcement comes as Facebook acquired the rights to broadcast 31 Champions League games per season and the UEFA Super Cup, for the 2018-2021 cycle, in Spanish-speaking Latin American countries, on 15/08/2018 and those of LaLiga Santander, for the 2018-2021 cycle, in eight Asian countries (India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), on 14/08/2018.
