UEFA: European Cups and the "competitive balance in European Football" discussed by the PFSC

"The Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC) chaired by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, met today in Monaco and discussed a variety of matters impacting the professional game. Topics addressed included competitive balance in European Football, and an update from the UEFA Club Competitions Committee on the ongoing work regarding the 2021-24 cycle," said UEFA on 30/08/2018.

The Club Competition Committee advocates the creation in 2021 of a third European Cup, in addition to the Champions League and Europa League. The Europa League would go from 48 to 32 clubs and this third European competition would also have 32 participants, just like the Champions League, according to information from the German daily Bild on 30/08/2018.

The ECA, which supports this innovation, is expected to raise the subject at its 21st General Assembly, held at the Le Meridien Lav Hotel in Split (Croatia) on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11/09/2018.
