Germany: ZDF extend broadcast rights for the UEFA Champions League until 2018

German public TV channel ZDF have extended their broadcasting rights for the Champions League, in Germany, until 2018, the company announced on the 12/12/2013.

ZDF are the broadcasters of the Champions League for German free-TV for the period 2012-2015. The rights acquired for the period 2015-2018 include the live broadcast of 18 games per season:
- the two qualification play-off matches that the club who finished fourth in the previous Bundesliga season must play
- six group stage matches
- four second round matches
- two quarter-finals
- two semi-finals
- the final
- the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Super Cup, which pits the previous Champions League and Europa League winners against each other (four editions from 2015 to 2018).

With the exception of the final, ZDF will only broadcast Champions League matches on Wednesday nights.

• The match between Marseille and Borussia Dortmund (1-2, match-day 6 of Group F, 2013-14 Champions League), allowed ZDF, broadcaster of the match in Germany, to achieve nearly 8.3 million viewers, on the 11/12/2013.
