"The club is not for sale and no contact exists with credible buyers. Nobody is allowed to speak on behalf of shareholders who have, as their only concern, to protect the AS Saint-Etienne. The club intends to stay focused on its sporting season rather than endorse unfounded rumors," stated AS Saint-Etienne (Ligue 1 Conforama) on 28/09/2018, following an article in the French sports daily L'Equipe dated the same day and which reported an offer of €55m from an investor from the United Arab Emirates to buy the club.

Peak6 Investments LP, a US investment fund based in Chicago, Illinois, was reported on 15/05/2018 to have entered into exclusive negotiations with Bernard Caïazzo (chairman of the supervisory board) and Roland Romeyer (chairman of the executive board) in the acquisition (in part or whole) of AS Saint-Etienne, which the latter two directors had acquired in 2004.
