CAF: Walter Nyamilandu (Malawi) chosen to represent English-speaking Africa on the FIFA Council

Walter Nyamilandu, president of the Malawi Football Federation, has been elected as the representative of Anglophone Africa on the FIFA Council, at the 12^th Extraordinary General Assembly of CAF, in Sharm El Sheikh (EGY) on 30/09/2018.

Walter Nyamilandu bested Danny Jordaan (RSA) by 35 votes to 18 in the second round. In the first round, Leodegar Tenga (Tanzania) was eliminated with 14 votes, against 23 for Walter Nyamilandu and 16 for Danny Jordaan. Two other candidates, Elvis Chetty (Seychelles) and Nick Mwendwa (Kenya) withdrew before the voting began.

The new president succeeds Kwesi Nyantakyi (Ghana), who has resigned from the presidency of the Ghana Football Federation; the CAF executive committee, of which he was first vice-president; and the FIFA Council, on 08/06/2018, after being caught in the act of corruption by journalists.
