Brazil 2014: End of safety investigation and resumption of work at stadium in Manaus

Construction resumed on the Amazonia Arena in Manaus, after two days of safety investigations on the stadium, on the 18/12/2013.

Following the death of a worker who fell from the roof, on the 14/12/2013, the investigators concluded that "all security measures are in place to ensure the safety of workers." The judge who authorised the resumption specified that all work at height must be made during the day.

Work at height had been halted at the request of the prosecutor's office of the State of Amazon. The workers went on strike on the 16/12/2013, to denounce safety conditions on the site and the pressures of having to accelerate the pace of work. "Now we will meet with Andrade Gutierrez (the constructor) to recreate the timetable and reprogramme what still needs to be done and determine new deadlines," said Miguel Neto Capobiango, a coordinator in Manaus for the organisation of the 2014 World Cup (12/06-13/07/2014).

Technical expertise will determine whether the delivery date of the stadium should be postponed until after mid-January 2014.
